Development

The School of Visual Arts reached out to me to make a motion graphic for their website, introducing the 3D Animation and Visual Effects department to prospective and incoming students. I decided to work within SVA's existing brand guidelines, using the same color palette and typography while finding ways to represent the playful visual language found throughout the school's identity.

Given the differences between the 3D and VFX skillsets, I wanted to create an introduction that felt distinctly SVA while clearly communicating the relationship between the two disciplines. I began the concept phase using Kling AI to explore different ways to represent these disciplines before refining the strongest concepts through a traditional workflow.

This led to separating the "3D" and "Visual Effects" portions of the animation into two styles of motion graphics, in order to represent each one differently. The "3D" portion is represented through a balloon inflating, transforming from a flat 2D shape into a 3D form to symbolize the journey from concept to finished asset.

Alternatively, the "Visual Effects" sequence draws inspiration from compositing workflows, using layered imagery and multiple visual elements coming together to form a final shot.
